Consequences of global warming

How does global warming affect your country?

Stop Waiting by Pietro Maccabei, LSP Assisi / Italy

Our planet has come to a crucial moment.  For years,  the  governments have overlooked warnings on the effects of global warming and nowadays we’re in a critical situation from which it’s impossible to get out.The greed of those who control our economy has led to a ruthless search for fossil fuels to achieve immediate wealth, instead of investing in the use of renewable energies in order to create a better future for everyone.  CO2 emissions have reached a level of 391 ppm causing an energy imbalance in our atmosphere.  Right now,  the Earth absorbs more energy and radiations than the ones it can expel into space: it's like as if,  every day of the year,  400,000 atomic bombs went off!  All this extra energy is taking on the role of the Sun in the processes of climate change, altering its balance. If we don't change our production methods and our lifestyle as soon as possible, we'll give start  to a process out of our  control which will lead to the definitive melting of the ice and to the extinction of millions of species, but mostly it will have an important economic impact.

In the current situation it would be necessary to reduce gas emissions by  9 - 10%  through a progressive elimination  of sources of pollution and through the replacement of exhaustible energy resources with renewable ones. The development  of an economy based on green energy would give birth to thousands of jobs and would allow the normal course of progress.

This is, therefore, the time to act and to take on  our responsibilities in order to leave a better planet for the future generations. We absolutely can't wait, because if the percentage of radiations still increases, we will face a challenge that we can't overcome; and in so doing we will condemn the world to a sure  end.

We must do it for our children and grandchildren, but mostly we must do it right now.
