Have the women the same rights and opportunities in the labor market as men?

Since forever women have been discriminated in every sphere of life. There is a common and maybe false belief that in the 19th and 20th century emancipation movements managed to secure equal rights. But nowadays there are still many gender inequalities, for instance on the labor market. It is important to make people aware of  difficulties women experience while trying to find a job. During an interview they have to answer questions of intimate nature, about for instance their plans concerning pregnancy or raising children. Employers seem to be unwilling to give women full-time employment in fear of their frequent absences from work.

In our opinion, it should be possible for women to reconcile career with family life. Working online would be a good and easy way to do that. Was this solution widespread, females in advanced pregnancy or with small babies would be able to take their job home.

A great facilitation for women would be to get rid of the stereotype which says that they should sacrifice their career for family life. If men increased their involvement in taking care of a child, it would be senseless for employers to worry about females availability, because both of the parents would have to share the same responsibilities.

You can see there is still a lot of work to be done. We believe that with a bit of effort, the problem will soon disappear and women will finally enjoy equal rights.

It is important to be aware of the differences between equality by law and in real-life. While women do have the same rights as men in many countries, there are still many obstacles left when you have to combine carreer and family. I believe the biggest issue is that women are expected to be more involved in raising children and taking care of the household than their husbands. Your point that women and men should share that more is therefore really significant.

We agree with you and we believe that inequality between the genders is a serious problem that has to be fixed. A good first measure in order to solve this problem would be to split up the time parents spend at home so that men and women have equal conditions. If we get to this point then we will probably be able to live a life where there is an equality between the genders. Sincererly/Sebastian, Imke, Lena
