In 1523 the famous philosopher Erasm from Rotterdam, impressed by the Polish successes, wrote the following words: “ Congratulations to this nation… which now in science, law, morality, religion and everything that separates us from barbasim, is in such a bloom that can compete with the first and highest of all the countries.”
