PERIOD: 06-17 August 2018
PARTICIPANT TEACHER: Jorge Benayas
SENDING SCHOOL: IES Alonso de Orozco
RECEIVING SCHOOL/INSTITUTION: inlingua Edinburgh
Hello,
I am going to share with you my experience in a two weeks English Course in Edinburgh during August 2018.
The first thing that draw my attention was the beauty of the city, with two separated parts, the decadent old city and the spacious and ordered new city. Coinciding with my staying period I could also enjoy the Fringe Festival, the most important International Festival of Theatre, so the old city was always crowded. There were all kind of performances, both in The Royal Mile and in different theatres across the city.

Referring to my English course, I did it with "inLingua Edinburgh", and I must say that it was a very well-used time. We began at 9:00 and stopped at 13:30 for lunch, then we worked talking skills in the afternoon from 14:30 to 16:00. One of the things that really caught my attention was the methodology used in the academy to develop the English classes: all the teachers had an exhaustive control of our progress noted in their teacher's notebooks, and they switched their classes every 3 days. This methodology allowed me to have eight different teachers, with their specific accents and ways of teaching, throughout the two weeks, but without ever losing the common thread of what we had done with the previous teacher.
After the regular classes, I always joined the "social programme", which allowed us to visit the city guided with one of the teachers of the school. The social programme was an excellent opportunity to continue practicing my English language skills, as well as getting to know the city and Scottish traditions in greater depth. We did so many things that I will detail some of them with the following images.
Arthur’s Seat, a small hill with magnificent views.
Carlton Hill, also with excellent views, especially at sunset.
Edinburgh Castle
Dean village, a charming corner away from the city centre
National Monument of Scotland (Carlton Hill), an attempt to reproduce the Parthenon of Athens that ran out of funds
Palace of Holyroodhouse
The Parliament
Social programme at the New City
Mystery tour with locals
National Museum of Scotland
Every night we could enjoy fireworks
Jupiter Artland
Valley of Glencoe
Rosslyn chapel
The tradicional Haggis, neeps and tatties
Finally, as a music teacher it was very fruitful to be able to enjoy the Fringe Festival...
…and all the musical opportunities I can experience:
Ceilich dance, that I will teach my students
Live music everywhere
I even had the chance to play an original Victorian keyboard...
All in all, this stay provided by the Erasmus+ programme, in addition to helping me improve my English skills, has also contributed to getting to know the culture and traditions of Scotland, constituting an unforgettable professional and personal experience.
