Szkoła Podstawowa nr 9 im. Mikołaja Kopernika in Dzierżoniów Poland  is a middle-sized school located in a mountainous region in south-west Poland. It provides education not only for students from Dzierżoniów, but from the nearest villages too. Currently, we have 483 pupils from 6 to 13 years old in 20 classes.  All the classes learn English as a second language. Our pupils come from different social levels and  some of their families get subsistence from a social  welfare program.

The school  is involved in numerous projects. Our school is a part of the network of Health Promoting Schools, a project supported by the Ministry of Education. Pupils of our school have participated in eTwinning projects being awarded European Quality Labels (22 projects) and National eTwinning Awards (four projects) for their excellent work.  Our school project "Discovering Europe with foreign languages" was also awarded with the European Language Label in 2006. In 2015 SP9 Dzierżoniów was awarded with a certificate: ‘Top school of the Decade in Poland’ for involvement and  successful work on eTwinning projects (only 10 schools in Poland were awarded). Working on eTwinning project teachers use  CLIL in teaching process, as the projects have concerned science and nature, history, culture, handcrafts, safety on the Internet, travel, healthy lifestyle and ecology.

SP 9 Dzierżoniów for many years has inspired students implementing innovative methods of teaching. 11-year-long experience in eTwinning projects with many awards in this area is a proof that we can use ICT tools and English as a second language on quite a high level. At our school teachers implement many pedagogical innovations in teaching English, History, Maths, Ecology and PE what makes our lessons more attractive for students and encourage them to be more active in their learning process.

Our school is equipped with seven interactive whiteboards, which are regularly used not only during lessons but also during international videomeetings which we hold several times during each term.

Since February 2010 we have had a modern very well-equipped Science Lab which help the Science teachers teach by doing extremely interesting and involving experiments.

In 2009-2012 our school participated in a European Union  project for students „Everyone can become a wiseman”. Teachers from our school taught students in four thematic blocks: „Foreign languages are easy”, „Using ICT tools is easy”, „From Science to Mathematics” and „Young Businessman” what have made our teachers an experienced staff to work on the new Erasmus Plus project on creativity.

In 2012-2014 school team was successfully working on Comenius project 'What we want - building for the future of Europe', which was chosen as an example of good practice 2014 by National Agency in Poland.

We have had a previous involvement in a Comenius project with other four European schools. That experience has had a very positive affect not only on pupils and teachers but  also on the whole local community. For two years (2014-2016) our school was participating in an European project: EURONET 50/50 max .

Since 2016 SP 9 Dzierżoniów has been taking part in national programme promoting coding ‘Mistrzowie Kodowania” (Masters of Coding) as we want to let our students develop all skills needed in their future life.
