Introduction to the Erasmus+ project ‘On the way to Future‘

  • Objectives of the project, working methods and expected results were presented at our international online project meeting in Microsoft teams by VIII LO teachers in two language groups.

    1. The theme of our Erasmus + project is "On the way to the future!"

    2. The project is coordinated by the Secondary School No. VIII in Kraków, and 4 other schools are participating in the project, namely: Halepaghen-Schule Buxtehude, Liceo Sesto Properzio Assisi, German National High School Budapest and Deutsche SchuleVeda from Sofia.

    3. What do we want to achieve through the project? The project should develop a passion for reading books in the participants and develop their intercultural competences. It is also important to enhance the methods of teaching intercultural competences.

    4. What are intercultural competences? These are the standards of work and communication in an international team. It is also an indispensable tool for intercultural dialogue.

What do we need intercultural competences for nowadays? They are needed In order to study at foreign universities and colleges, to work in international companies and simply to live in a multicultural society.

    5. How can you acquire intercultural competences? There are 5 steps ahead of us that we should take in this project. We should broaden our knowledge of Europe and develop the skills necessary for work in an international team. The next step creates a positive attitude towards representatives of other cultures and appropriate forms of behaviour. We should also acquire experience in international cooperation and be so excited about it so as to be interested in acting on the international arena. This is how we reach the goal - intercultural competences.

    6. We will determine the level of acquired competences in two years’ time on the basis of our survey "My intercultural competences". To get reliable results, please complete the initial survey today after the meeting. When you go to TwinSpace Pages tab, on the left side panel, you will find the survey in the "Initial Surveys" /Startumfragen>> Initial survey 2 >>titled Intercultural competences.

    7. Now, some basic information. We will be working in German and English. Our project should last 2 years, but due to the pandemic situation it will certainly be extended.

    8. We will work on two levels. In addition to the student projects, the teaching team, will continue the work on practical intercultural education in the school.

    9. We will work on 2 subprojects: ‘Going with the times’ and ‘Your, my - our future’. Each school will be responsible for one project.

    10. The sub-projects will be implemented in a sequence. The first sub-project will certainly be partially extended over to the next school year.

    11. How are we going to work? In the course of the project, 5 international project meetings will take place, each with an intercultural class. During the school year we work on the eTwinning platform and develop an intercultural dialogue on specific topics in TwinSpace. The highlight of each sub-project will be the reading campaign. Certain project activities will be carried out during online meetings.

    12. And so: today we will learn about the standards of good communication and cooperation. Polish students will introduce us to the sub-project "Going with the times", and the German students will tell us what Literary Cafémeans.

    13. As part of our Erasmus+ project, we will do 2 eTwinning projects. We will build intercultural dialogue in our TwinSpace, both on discussion forums and websites, as well as in the literary cafe and via TwinMail.

    14. The planned dates of international meetings had to be postponed. One can only speculate about new date. The meeting in Kraków seems more likely to take place in September rather than in May or June. No more can be said at this point.

    15. Each Erasmus + school team will run 2 campaigns in the school community. The Erasmus + students will carry out the jointly developed German lessons, English lessons, lessons in their mother tongue and a literary evening. We will also present our graphic works.

    16. All the articles, comments and graphic works published /collected in TwinSpace will form the basis of the next two issues of our international student magazine “Miteinander".

    17. And the second level of the project. Here teachers will work on the Curriculum of Intercultural Competences as well as on the guide titled "Reading is worthwhile!.” Additionally, they will exchange experience in the field of intercultural competences at school.

    18. What is expected? Above all: content-rich intercultural dialogue on project topics. The public TwinSpace will be created as the end product. Further on: two issues of our student magazine "Miteinander", the Curriculum for Intercultural Dialogue and the guide titled "Reading is worthwhile!". Our campaigns will also be important. The most important, however, will be the non-material products such as: the acquired intercultural competences, the experience gained by the teachers in terms of teaching intercultural competences and a passion for reading books, which we count on.

    19. Having discussed the most important goals of the project, the forms of work and results, we look forward to a good cooperation.
