School subject: BIOLOGY
Author: Magdalena Monica Pătrăcuță, „Constantin Parfene” Secondary School, Vaslui, Romania
Topic: The Ecosystem of a park
Class level: 5th grade
Short description (impact on students):
The students are delighted to discover the Copou Park differently than they know it ( by walking and playing). Students are given the opportunity to apply in nature the notions learned in class. With the help of the biology teacher, students become curious to discover nature and more.
Time: 1 hour
Learning objectives:
- identification of biotope elements from an anthropized terrestrial ecosystem -the Copou Park, Vaslui;
- identification of biocenosis elements from an anthropized terrestrial ecosystem - Copou Park, Vaslui;
- recognition of relationships between living things;
- discovery of trophic categories in the ecosystem: producers, consumers, decomposers;
Process:
- The students and the teacher go to Copou Park, located near the school.
- Students are asked to remember what types of ecosystems they know. They have to identify that Copou Park is an anthropized terrestrial ecosystem.
- Students are reminded the components of an ecosystem: biotope (abiotic factors = lifeless factors) and biocenosis (biotic factors = living factors).
- Students are asked to identify, photograph and document themselves about all the living things they encounter.
- Using all the information gathered, students will make a project about the Copou Park or another park in the city. Students can return to the park to take other photos. To record the park location and temperature, students can use phone applications such as Google Maps or Weather. The deadline for the project is the end of November.
