Topic:  Let's Learn About The Forest!

    Class level: 12-13 year-olds/ 7th grade

    Short description (impact on students):

Taking into consideration that the forest (including the parks, the open space) is the biggest and most important ecosystem, one of the most meaningful natural factors for material and spiritual life, I thought that by having some activities in nature students would discover and understand it better, and in the end, appreciate it.

Any child can protect nature, the only need is to value it. I have tried to make students aware of the fact that conservation of nature doesn't mean giving up its resources, but using them rationally. It is crucial not only the interest in keeping a balanced natural environment, conducive to life but also a proper behavior to diminish the relationships between man and the environment.

The students have discovered that by spending time together, they can learn new things, all held under the motto "Children's games, carried out in the Copou park".

    Time: 2 hours

    Learning objectives:

    • understand the relationship between people and nature
    • enrich knowledge of Copou's ecosystem: plants and animals that are living here
    • become aware of the effects and danger of environmental degradation due to deforestation and pollution
    • get involved in practical activities to protect and take care of the park and green spaces in the neighborhood of the school
    • observe the needs of the animals to keep their habitats and not to affect the food chains
    • become aware of the natural beauties of the park.

    Process:

The activity lasted two hours: one hour held in the classroom while the students studied on the internet or from books in the school library.

The second hour took place in the Copou Park where they applied what they have learned.

The students were divided into groups based on abilities:

Lecture: They read short texts dedicated to nature, especially to the forest

Painting:  Posters that urge protection of the environment

Writing: They have composed paragraphs about the forest

The little mathematicians in action: The students from this group had to solve a problem based on a text with a lot of data about the Copou Park.
