    Fanfiction – Red-Cap

by Tamás Koósa and Péter Payer, DNG Budapest/Hungary

Little Red-Cap raised her eyes, and when she saw the sunbeams dancing here and there through the trees, and pretty flowers growing everywhere, she thought: ’Suppose I take grandmother a fresh nosegay; that would please her. It is so early in the day that I will still get there in good time’; and so she ran from the path into the wood to look for flowers.

And whenever she had picked one that she fancied, she saw a still prettier one farther on, and ran after it, and so got deeper and deeper into the wood.” Meanwhile the granny was cooking at home. She wanted to surprise Red-Cap with her favourite sour cherry pie. She doesn’t use glasses, cause she is so vain. That is why she didn’t realize, that the fruit contained a stone. Then she put it into the oven, and waited for the result. Meanwhile she prepared everything and was waiting for coming of her grandchild. The cake was baked, but Red-Cap still wasn’t there. Grandma wanted to be sure, that it’s delicious and so on... Naturally she cut a slice, and tasted. At the first bite she felt something was not okay, but it was too late. The grandma started choking on the dangerous stone.

Luckily Red-Cap arrived and saw what was going on. She panicked of course and ran out of the house, where she started to scream and shout. Nobody else heard her cry except the wolf, who was hunting near of the cottage. As soon as possible he rushed there. Red-Cap was pretty surprised, and scared a bit, because nobody had a good opinion of the wolf in the village. But he was so helpful, and immediately knew what to do. The animal caught the old lady and started pressing out the stone from her.

The last character of our tale also heard the emergency calling, he just arrived later. He was the old hunter, who was a good friend of the family.. He misunderstood the happening and aimed to shoot... The lupin fell into the floor. The hunter could not understand why the reaction was different, than he expected...

So the moral of our fable dear kids: Don’t judge anybody, before you know them.

    Dear readers,

let's start first with what fanfiction is and where it comes from. Everything started in the Middle Ages. Many readers who fell into the readiness of his author could not wait any longer and told their own staff. The author couldn´t publish his stories immediately. The first fanfictions knew no writing, everything was told further. Wherever people lived together, there were also myths about nature and it´s spirits and gods, which were passed on from generation to generation. Of course, the stories of the gods were told differently depending on the region, because each people had their own little gods, which helped people in everyday life. For example, the ancient Egyptian peoples who lived by the sea told of beings other than the inhabitants of the mountains. Over time, colourful relationships developed between many little gods and thus a network of stories or as one would say today: fanfiction. I hope I could bring you closer to fanfiction.

    Dearest greetings, Melike.

Hi there! We loved your story, and especially the twist at the end with the wolf being nice. You really got through with your message about not judging someone before you know them. Which of course is an important message since a lot of people are doing the opposite.

About fanfiction, we think that it is a good way to be able to put your own touch to a story that already exists. That way you can make it more you, perhaps you want to make it more modern or just change the outcome.
