Red Weed Story - Czech Cross-curriculum project

  • RED WEED PROJECT

Czech pupils from grades 1 to 5 took part in this project in October and November 2017.

They learnt about Red Weed in Biology, Crafts, Art, Cooking, Maths, History, and Czech reading lessons. Pupils learnt about products using the scent and seeds and tested them.

Wild Red Weed flowers often grow on the graves of soldiers who were buried in the fields and meadows. That´s why this flower became a symbol of the end of WWI in the United Kingdom and other countries. On Remembrance Day, November 11, thousands of these flowers are bought by the relatives and placed on the graves and memorial places.

The project was finished by the display opened on Remembrance Day and pupils went to the memorial place to put their Red Weeds there.
