Salt Story - Czech Cross-curriculum project

  • THE SALT STORY

    Czech organized a cross-curricular project about salt in Autumn 2019. It started in November. Pupils from grades 1 to 5 took part in various workshops in worked in many subjects. They learnt a lot about salt, used it in Art and Craft, learnt facts in Science, Maths, Czech and English lessons. Finally, all outcomes were displayed in our school hall until January 2020.

    Objectives:

    SCIENCE:

    - to study various types and structures of salt

    - to learn how salt was created 

    - to learn how we can use salt and what products we can make

    - to visit salt mine in Wieliczka in Poland and try to excavate salt

    - to learn why salt is important for animals

    CZECH LANGUAGE:

    - writing and reading fairy-tales, stories, and poems about salt

    - to learn new grammar rules through the tasks about salt 

    MATHEMATICS:

    - to solve Maths problems connected with this topic

    ENGLISH:

    - to learn the vocabulary needed in CLIL Science lesson on salt

    HISTORY:

    - to learn how salt was used instead of money in the primeval times

    ART and CRAFTS:

    - to make a present for Christmas

    - to make 2D and 3D outcomes with various materials and techniques (painting, drawing, combine techniques, mandalas)

    - to make a booklet with all salt´s project worksheets

    - to help to prepare display (bring products)

    - to make salt bathing bombs

    COOKING: 

    - to study where to find information about the amount of salt in food products

    - to bake and use salt as decoration

    ICT:

    - to motivate pupils to use IT tools to prepare their tasks for classmates

    - to look for information and pictures 

     

    The SALT DAY was organized on DECEMBER 3

    Pupils tried various activities with salt, for example, salt inhalations or saltwater baths. They made salt bath bombs, They opened the salt display with their project outcomes.
