Seminars and Lectures

  • Seminars and Lectures

Since the beginning of the project our students have attended a lot of lectures and seminars dealing not only with migration but also with other topics closely connected with the topic of social inlcusion.

Firstly, it is worth mentioning that are students could listen to and then discuss the issue of migration with Dr. Phil. Nicole Horáková Hirschelová who is one of the leading sociologist in our country. She provided students with the basic terminology dealing with migration as well as a brief history of migration in our own region. What is more, the discussion to which her lecture led was even more interesting. Students were able to have their questions answered from the sociological point of view providing deeper insight into the subject matter.

Secondly, we were lucky enough to listen to one of the social workers who happens to be an employee of one the detention centres in the Czech Republic. Bc. Francírková is a member of OPU which is an organization helping refugees since 1991. This organization takes care of the integration process, finding a sustainable job etc. Therefore, our students had the opportunity to actually speak to someone who has a first hand experience with the process of being integrated and obstacles these immigrants might encounter.

Dealing with the law itself, we had the opportunity to discuss the Czech Asylum Law and the legislative in general with one of the laywers who had been working in one of the detention centres. It meant a great deal for us beacuse he helped us with illuminating some of the complicated legal issues that immigrants have to deal with.
