7. 4th Mobility Meeting, Czech Republic

  • 4th Mobility Meeting, Czech Republic

The main goal of this mobility was to show as well as discuss the experience and the final results of the project. Students were supposed to how they helped with social cohesion and inclusion, discuss the first draft of the documentary, and reflect upon the project and the success of innovative methodologies. Moreover, the final assessment of the project took place as well.

All the activities and meetings were attended by 36 students and 12 teachers who helped to conduct them as well as partcipated actively.

The first activity was the visit to  the Centre for Support of Integration of Foreigners - Moravia-Silesia Region - Our students and teachers were shown individual steps during the immigration process. What is more, they were acquainted with the places where the immigrants are taught, meet, consult their issues etc. It helped to gain the knowledge of how social cohesion works as well as it shaped the way they think about the integration process. Furthermore, in order to support the sustainability of the project, students have commenced a cooperation with the centre. In addition, our students provided materials developed during the project (bookmarks, glossary) that should further help with the inclusion.

Secondly, we visited the Bedřiška Estate which is a social housing colony. Therefore, students had the opportunity to see the housing of people who happen to be socially excluded - mainly the Roma people. Our students had a chance to be introduced not only to the phenomena of inclusion but exclusion as well. Therefore, the students realized the importance of inclusion and integration and what happens if the process is not underway.

The lecture with doc. Pytlíková helped with the realization of the fact that migration is an ongoing process with its history, future, and tendencies. Therefore, our students have realized that sustainability is a vital part and that their active citizenship does not and should not end with the project. Thus, they have been encouraged to share and spread the ideas gained within the project. What is more, the discussion following the lecture prooved that our students are capable of using their competences to debate and are able to use the fact presented in the project.

To realize that migration has its history as well as vast array of reasons and causes ranging from the socio-economical to the political, our students visited a Wallachian village. Not only did it help with the realization but it also showed that social cohesion and inclusion have been an important part of every culture no matter when, therfore, worth sustaining.

    Final Results and Dissemination

Speaking about the dissemination and final actions, we visited the local Council Houses where we were welcomed by the Deputy of the Governer. He delivered a speech about the importance of such projects. Not only did our students and teachers recieved certificates but they also had a chance to present the Declaration of Intents, hence, disseminating the aims and goals of our project as well as our student's intention to sustain, spread and share the content and ideas presented in it. Moreover, the local Council Houses website released a newsletter about our visit raising awareness about the topic of the project as well as making it accessible to public.

To disseminate the project even more we decided to record the project song I Wish I Could Part the Seas that was later to be included in the documentary during an event organized not only for the project participants but also for parents, staff and public. Therefore, they had a chance to talk to the participants and get to know something about the project such as its aims. What is more, they also had an opportunity to share their opinions about the issue and, thus, discuss it with our students as well as teachers.

To discuss the final assessment and reflections upon the project as well as its sustainability the teachers were meeting regularly during the mobility. Not only did they discuss the reflections but they also agreed on the final form of the outcomes and products of the project (bookmarks, documentary, glossary etc.)

One of the main outcomes of the project should be a documentary - In Their Shoes. Hence, before the mobility our team had prepared the first draft of the documentary to be later discussed. After watching the documentary created by students and teachers agreed on certain changes in terms of editing and formal side of it. The documentary is later going to be used as one of the main tools for dissemination (projected) as well as teaching purposes being part of Civics, History, Language classes. Not only will this documentary help with the dissemination process but it will also contribute in terms of keeping the content and ideas of the project and attitude towards migration sustainable.

We have decided to distribute the outcomes and products (bookmarks, documentary, glossary) to the organizations we have cooperated with as well as other institutions such as elementary schools, libraries etc. It will help with sustainability and dissemination of the project.
