19.6.- Day of Languages (E18)

  • DAY OF LANGUAGES

For Language Day, we propose to carry out some of the following activities:

    • Through Etwinning's messaging service, pupils send messages to their classmates or make posters in the language of the receiving country. The words will be related to the culture of the country or to express a feeling. For example: Spain (Siesta, bulls, tortilla de patatas, flamenco, etc.). For this, they use the tool "European Word Translator". On this page we will upload some pictures of the development of the activity.
    • Making posters in the partners' languages on Covid measures.

On 27 and 28 September we celebrated the European Day of Languages in our school. Our students changed their masks into colourful flags, which made our school shined with the colours of the flags of European countries. There was a lot of fun in our school those days. All students participated in language workshops, during which they had the opportunity to test their skills in various team language games. The languages skirmishes were very exciting and made everyone was involved in the actvities and seemed to feel motivated to the work in groups. Every lesson started with a short discussion about how much important it is to learn foreign languages nowadays. The students talked about the ways how they learn a foreign language, about how people could learn a foreign language these days.
There were a lot of interesting tasks for the students during the workshops. For example, one of the activities was to recognize the languages in the song „Dance Monkey” which was sung in 12 languages. The other one was to match English proverbs to their Polish meanings. The next one was to read QR codes (using phones) to answear various questions connected with language knowledge hidden there inside the codes. Nevertheless, the funniest activity was to read loudly
    English tongue twisters.

    7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

They took part in the school competition for the title of „School Polyglot”, where they had to prove they have enough foreign language knowledge to be awarded.
The title of „School Polyglot” went to one student at the 7th grade level and to the other student from the 8th grade.

From our classroom we have wanted to carry out an activity that included the importance of knowing different languages and also relate it to our Erasmus project, a project in which we work with other countries and that is why we have wanted to reflect it in our tree of life.
