    The future of books

by Martin Norbert Mészáros and Fruzsina Leéb, DNG Budapest/Hungary

What will happen to books in the future? For us, the book is obviously made of paper and smells of printing ink. It has a special scent, fantasy cover and can be neatly collected on the shelf according to various criteria. We love old school books because they don't hurt our eyes, no matter if the sun shines or what kind of light we use.

But just like the world, books are modernizing. E-books are more space-saving than thick old school books. While a book takes up most of a small bag, an eBook reader can keep an entire library in your bag with less space to lose. From an environmental point of view, we prefer the e-book reader because there isn’t need to print on paper. The production of e-book readers also requires raw materials, but because e-ink and e-paper technology is relatively simple, it doesn't require a lot of production.

Another huge advantage is that e-book readers don't use much power. So these gadgets have minimal power consumption. Just think how much wood would be saved and how much energy it would save if book publishing worked that way, and hopefully it would be the way for future generations.

So basically electronics is the future here, even if it doesn't completely replace paper based books in our lives.

    Hello there,

I can agree with what was said in the article, that e-books are much more convenient for many reasons. But I also think that you lose track of what you've been reading when you only read books on your e-book reader. Nothing feels better than seeing your personal library grow and remembering all the books you've read and the memories behind them. Another thing is that with a real book you see much better how many pages there actually are and how far you've come already.

In my opinion many non-fictional books will become only e-books, like school books, cooking books and guidance books. But I can't and don't want to imagine a life without a good paperback-book in your hands, one you can really feel and not just swipe your fingers on a screen. Electronic books may become more frequently, but I don't think that books made out of paper will ever really disappear.

    Hey,

I totally agree with the things you mentioned. Of course, E-Books are much more comfortable than normal books (you can read a lot of different stories without carrying much weight, it saves space, ...)

But in my opinion, I like the normal, old books more. I like it if I can turn real pages and things like that. I think, it is a very current topic at the moment and I discussed a lot about it with different people. In summary, most of them were of the opinion that I already mentioned: E-Books are more convenient, but normal books are more famous.

For that reason, I don't think that old, real books will disappear.
