HKKS Christmas decoration workshop and sale

  • On November 28 and 29 the school library organised an art workshop for students to be creative with plastic waaste materials. The event was attended mainly by girls who worked tirelessly to come up with inventive and attractive designs. Mrs Gabryelczyk, who runs our libraray, prepared a variety of materials and the participants were asked to bring their own as well. What they worked with were disused CDs,jars, bottles, ribbons, pieces of cloth, beads and white paint among others.

"We are spending a very good time here at the same time we are protecting our planet. Thanks to this event we can develop ideas for ecological behaviour."

Meanwhile, we encouraged our students to join in the effort to sew reusable  shopping sacks which could replace thin, plastic tear-aways shoppers pack fruit and vegetables in. The idea came from one of the teachers to recycle net curtain scraps and disused curtains and some teachers, students and parents got involved in the process of sewing the sacks and we were able to convince some parents and teachers to give them a try when shopping. It takes time to change habits.

A few days later, during a teacher-parent meeting we opened a stall to sell the decorations alongside with the reusable net sacks and we were able to convince some parents and teachers to give them a try when shopping.

We donated the income from the stall to the school Voluntary Work Club.
