Workshop at MBG - "Cosmetics without Plastic"

  • On 13th November we had a workshop dealing with cosmetics without plastic. Kordula Honnef, a gardener and herb woman, visited our school and taught us a lot about how our consumer behaviour can influence big companies and politics. Later we also did some practical work.

We tried a handpeeling consisting only of coffee grounds and lavender oil which worked perfectly, as even a local politician can prove. Then we mixed a shampoo made of water and rye flour. Finally, we made a dishwasher powder using natron, citric acid, soda and salt. Some people have already tried it and say it works just as good if not better than the tabs that are usually used. We filled more than 150 little glasses and gave them to the visitors of our open day on 16th November together with the recipes so they can make some themselves.

All these products are biodegradable and can be made of simple ingredients you can cheaply buy anywhere. We also got tips of websites publishing the recipes we used and more, for example utopia.de (unfortunately only in German) or smarticular.net (which can also be translated to English). Altogether it was a very interesting and informative workshop that we can highly recommend.

Thanks to Mrs Honnef and to our local municipality Kreis Neuwied for making this workshop possible!
