LibreOffice is a free and open source office software package developed by The Document Foundation.
It was created in 2010 as a fork of OpenOffice.org, another former open source project, which in turn, had as its initial base the office suite StarOffice, developed by StarDivision, which was acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999.
Its environment is programmed in the computer languages C++, Java and Python.
