CYPRUS

  • The Troodos region is characterized by one of the largest groups of churches and monasteries of the former Byzantine Empire.

    The ten churches are included on the World Heritage List and are decorated with murals.The murals provide an overview of Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting in Cyprus.

    The architecture of these churches is unique and someone can see from churches to monasteries. These structures show elements which were specific to Cyprus and were determined by its history, geography as well as climate. Wooden roofs with flat hooked tiles over Byzantine masonry and vaulted forms while exhibiting Byzantine art of the highest quality.

    The students had the opportunity to research, answer questions and make their own 3D model of one of the ten churches Panagia of Asinou. Students even make their own posters.
