CYPRUS

  • We prepared a presentation and activities about one of the most important monuments of Limassol’s identity and history, the Castle of Limassol. Situated near the old harbour in the heart of the historical centre of the city, it houses the Medieval Collection of the Cyprus Museum.

A remnant from the presence of Crusaders on the island of Cyprus where Richard the Lionheart allegedly married Queen Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England. It is said that at his wedding, Richard the Lionheart served Commandaria, a sweet dessert wine referred to it as “the wine of kings and the king of wines”. Cyprus is home to this oldest named wine which is still in production and has been enjoyed throughout the years by Crusaders, Knights and Kings.

At the end of the presentation the students were asked to research and complete some activities and worksheets. The enjoyed their journey into the time of the Crusaders!
