CYPRUS

  • PAPHOS MOSAICS

During the workshop students had the opportunity to explore more and learn all about the Paphos Mosaics which are considered among the finest in the eastern Mediterranean.

They are situated in Kato Paphos and form part of the Archaelogical Park, a World Heritage Site. Students were amazed by the color of the floor mosaics which depict various scenes from the Greek Mythology such as Scylla the mythical sea monster to Hercules and Theseus's battle with the Minotaur.

Going from the House of Dionysos to the House of Theseus and then to the House of Aion, the House of Orpheus and lastly to the House of the Four Seasons it felt like we were living in an imprortant area at the time of antiquity in Cyprus.

All in all, the remains of villas, palaces, theatres fortresses and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional historic value.

Students had to answer questions and create their own mosaics at the end.
