Stari Grad Plain - Building the drywalls in the fields - workshop

  • In February 2019 our students (members of the UNESCO Passsport project team) visited the vilage of Velo Grablje near Hvar. We were welcomed by a local who gave us a short speech on how people lived there in not os distant past. We realised how important the art of buliding drywalls was, it divided properties but also kept the fertile soil from being washed away.

On 28th November 2018 UNESCO recognised the importance  of preserving these stone drywalls and added the art of drywalls building to the list of the intangible heritage. We are very proud of that fact.

The lecture was followed by a short workshop of buliding drywalls. Our students were fast learners so they bulit their first drywall along one of the village paths. ther was a lot of joy, laughter and cooperation surrounding this activity.
