April 2017. An specialist from Consejería de Innovación, Ciencia y Empresa (Ministry of Innovation, Science and Enterprise) gave an interesting presentation on HOW TO SAVE ENERGY in our daily life. Students at 1 and 2 years of Compulsory Secondary education attended. It was an interesting chat focused on small things we can do at home or at school everyday which contribute to big changes in the environment.
Energy moves the world but we must cooperate and become responsible and solidary consumers. We were given stickers to remind us not to leave lights on unnecessarily.
He reminded our students the 3R rule: REDUCE; REUSE; RECYCLE.
Fossile origin energies are harmful to the environment, so RENEWABLE energies should be used instead.
He showed us several devices, prototypes, working on solar energy:
A solar oven and a solar cooker have been installed to see how they work. We cooked "macarroni". We all had the chance to learn about clean energies and students were amazed at how easy it is to use them.
We even had fun trying to tell that recipe in English. Pretending we were at a Master Chef session!!! Surprisinly, there were several volunteers who demonstrated a good command of vocabulary (pasta, water, some salt, hot,.., boil, stir, add tomato sauce, eat,...serve on a plate). Thus, we worked interdisciplinarity.
