Intermon Oxfam: Fair Trade

    • 14 February 2017

Intermon Oxfam is an NGO fighting poverty, people's rights, sustainable food systems,... Our students attended a speech on Fair Trade organized by the organisation. Alejandro Ruiz-Echeondo, a History teacher in charge of Complementary & Extra-School activities made it possible. The representatives in Huelva set up a stand focused on FOOD and CLOTHES mainly.

    • The aim of this activity was to avoid consumerism, to make people aware of the importance of fair trade because not all trade is fair! Those at the beginning of the chain don’t always get a fair share of the benefits of trade. Fairtrade enables consumers to put this right. It is an alternative approach to conventional trade and is based on a partnership between producers and consumers. For example, when farmers can sell on Fairtrade terms, it provides them with a better deal and improved terms of trade. This allows them the opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future. Fairtrade offers consumers a powerful way to reduce poverty and injustice through their every day shopping.
