Oldenburg - Museum (12-2020) (boarding next generation, part II)

  • (students of class 8, working in "Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kultur" in Oldenburg)

Ancient mythology in European art was a main point of our project in december 2019.

While the older students from Italy and Germany were working online together on -> (link:) reception of Ovid in several genres of European art, the younger Latin students from Wilhelmshaven (class 8) worked practically in a gallery.

(understanding a picture by "staging" the main characters)

"Gods and heroes – mythological painting in baroque and today, feat. Michael  Ramsauer" was an exhibition in Oldenburg, "Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte" at the end of 2019. Paintings of mythological scenes by artists from the 17th and 18th century like Rubens or Brueghel were shown together with pictures about the same topics, created by modern artist Michael Ramsauer exclusively for this exhibition.

These were the tasks for the students:

    worksheet class 8 - museum Oldenburg.pdf

    (1) to choose a picture and to write downsome information about it

    (2) to focuse on the main character: sketch it, characterize it,

use the internet to find out more about the myth

    (3) to find some interesting details and - re-act the picture:

(Nils and Johannes as Ruben's Prometheus and the Eagle)

The activity was also connected to an "Actionbound":

Back in school, the students of class 8 made a presentation about their observations.

Here is an example for the picture "Die Welt huldigt Apoll" ("The world pays tribute to Apoll") from 1642 and for "Der gefesselte Prometheus" ("Prometheus bound", by Peter Paul Rubens)
