Being a student in medieval Europe

  • introduction:

Becoming a student is an exciting experience, both today and in medieval times.

For future lawyers, Bologna was very appealing, for future doctors of medicine Salerno was a good place.

For future (natural) scientists in the middle ages, the universities of Oxford and Paris were interesting places. And one of the most interesting professors of science was Roger Bacon.

    But first of all:

What kind of subjects are you mostly interested in?

What career do you want to follow?

In which place do you find the university and the teachers which and who suits your plans best?

Young people of the middle ages certainly had to consider the same things which you will think about in a short period of time, when you are about to finish your final examinations in school.

By the way: Which kind of studies and subjects do you think are most important and indispensable for a modern democratic and multioptional society?
