An. M. Severini Boetii De institutione musicae

  •

Boethius' De institutione musica was one of the first musical works to be printed in Venice between the years of 1491 and 1492. It was written toward the beginning of the sixth century and helped medieval authors during the ninth century to understand Greek music. Like his Greek predecessors, Boethius believed that arithmetic and music were intertwined, and helped to mutually reinforce the understanding of each other, and together exemplified the fundamental principles of order and harmony in the understanding of the universe as it was known during his time.
