ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES IN GERMANY

  • Activities that took place at the German school only - and not on an international level - during the project:

    • The project club (21 students attended it for at least a year) met every two weeks, worked on project issues and did presentations on topics like palm oil, electric cars, air traffic, insect dying, the rise of the sea level. They also went to the “Klimaforum Ostalb”, were they were especially chosen to ask several questions to Sven Plöger, a well-known German meteorologist, took part in a “Fair Bike Tour” from Aalen to Itzelberg, worked in the forest with the “Waldmobil Ostalb” and visited the “UmWelthaus Aalen”, a “forest kindergarten” and an organic farm.
    • students’ presentations on the mobilities in Martinique and Tenerife (in front of 7 classes).
    • climate ambassadors organized visits of a wind power station and sustainable breakfasts for two classes
    • The MP Roderich Kiesewetter came to our school and discussed environmental issues with year 11 students and members of the project club.
    • We paid 750 climate compensation for the flights we did during the project.various meetings in connection with the eco-certificate (LINK)

    Let's put it into practice!

Things we do at the Werkmeister Gymnasium Neresheim:

    1. We have achieved the certificate "Grüner Aal" (eco school)

    2. Three students are ambassadors for "plant-for-the-planet" and inform the other students about the aims of that project. They also hold workshops and sell fairtraide chocolate. By five bars of chocolate sold, one tree will be planted. (www.plant-for-the-planet.org)

    3. If a teacher gets ill so that the class has got no lessons, students go out to clean up the environment around the school.

    4. Students take part in clean-up-days organized by the city of Neresheim.

    5. We established a work group that engages in protection of environment and climate.

    6. We only use recycled paper.

    7. We seperate waste.

    8. The climate mentors program is implemented in our school. In every school year, two students join the special training course to become climate mentors.
