3 - IT WORKSHOP 2 IN BUDAPEST Feb 5-9, 2018

  • SUMMARY

As the main goal of the project was to develop an environmental application, we have prepared it together through four working sessions with Ady’s students. Initially, students created a variety of small apps that reviewed the IT knowledge (timing, list management, simple database usege) and technical implementation in AppInventor, which is important for the application being developed. The components of the application are divided into smaller programs to make the operation of the application easier to understand.

There are different operating systems for mobile phones, resolutions of the screens, sensitivity of the gps modules so we had problems with AppInventor, and we had some difficulties we couldn't manage. AppInventor is not able to make app for IOS

    • Test the basic version of the application on multiple devices
    • IT Evolution" exhibition of Óbuda University, presented by Dr. László Kutor.
    • Visit at Microsoft Hungary Ltd., lecture about programming, especially the secrets and possibilities of application development.
    • XIII. district Municipality. Lajos Gellért, a press referent, introduced us to the green programs of XIII. district municipality, and passive houses and kindergarten concept, and the plans for the future.
    • Martinique teachers were present and prepared Martinique meeting with the group.

REPORT WRITTEN BY A HUNGARIAN STUDENT

What have we done within the framework of the
    CliMates programme so far?

First and foremost the very first meeting took place at the beginning of November 2017 in Neeresheim. All the teachers from the 5 participating countries came together to discuss what we would do in the following nearly two years.

After the first meeting we had only little time to talk about the plans and exercises because the second meeting – and the first one for the pupils – was organized on the beautiful Spanish island, Tenerife at the end of November 2017. That was the place where real work began.

Two pupils came from Germany, two pupils came from Estonia and I went from Hungary and of course there were our fantastic Spanish hosts as well. We spent the whole weekend with our host families so we could do whatever we wanted. The weekdays were totally different, we started each day in the local school, called I.E.S. San Juan de la Rambla. Although it was an IT specialized and forestall high school, due to the lack of Wi-Fi and reliable Internet connection we had to travel to another school to begin programming. Our (local) IT teacher who was a great expert of the MIT App Inventor 2 programming environment could help us a lot to acquire the basics. Our time in Tenerife passed away very quickly which we mind a bit because both the students and the teachers had a really great time together. Until we left for home we had had the chance to get to know different people coming from 5 different countries with 5 – more or less – different cultures.

After we got home luckily, we had to think our whole idea over to create a better and more entertaining app than those existing ones you have ever seen so far.

One thing may have crossed your mind…what we are going to do so that we can achieve our goals? We believe that the power is in teamwork, therefore we have made groups whose task is to collect more and more information about interesting places in our district that are connected to environmental protection and biodiversity. These places mean the base of our application which we will have finished by the end of February 2018 when the next workshop is going to take place in our school, in Budapest.

Are you thinking about joining us in February to finish this app and to come for a trip to check how our application works? Let’s meet as soon as the beginning of the next meeting…
