Impressions of Hungary

    Please answer the following questions

    ITALY

What is the biggest difference between your host country and your own country?

    • Italian Student 1: I think that the biggest difference between our countries is people’s behaviour. In Hungary people seem quieter and reserved instead in Italy we are more talkative and lively. After that our cities are bigger and full of people and we spend our free time outside, in Hungary they spend their free time in pubs or cafés.
    • Italian Student 2: From my experience I have noticed since the first day that the biggest difference between Italy and Hungary are the habits, in particular because here in Italy the time of dinner ranges from eight to half past nine, and we go out every night in the city centre, where every day everyone meets in the main places.
    • Italian Student 3: I think that the biggest difference is the lifestyle, for example Hungarian students don’t usually spend a lot of time with their friends, indeed they stay at home during the week. I honestly think that happens because Celldömölk is a small city so there isn’t place where guys can meet.
    • Italian Student 4: From what I saw, the biggest difference between Hungarians and Italians it is how we receive guests in our home. I think that Italians are very sociable, Hungarians are rather reserved.
    • Italian Student 5: I think that the biggest difference is how we live. Hungarian life is calm and peaceful, they rarely go out with friends and they are not very sociable. Andria instead I think it is a city for young people, we love going out instead of staying at home.

What do you think is better in your host country than in your own country?

    • Italian Student 1: I think  in Hungary there is more nature than in Italy, in fact  in the cities there are several parks and public gardens. This is something I can’t see everyday.
    • Italian Student 2: Quietness and silence reign in Hungary. The inhabitants are always very punctual and organized while in Italy we are always late or in a hurry.
    • Italian Student 3: The best thing in Hungary is the peacefulness, as sometimes Italian cities are too noisy.
    • Italian Student 4: Surely I have seen the organization of the city, for example a lot of houses are in the country side and they have a lot of respect for nature.
    • Italian Student 5: In Hungary you can enjoy the landscape, there is a lot of uncontamined nature and I took many pictures of that.

What do you think is better in your own country?

    • Italian Student 1: I think that here in Italy we have bigger cities with all the facilities you need to live instead in Hungary there are several villages and little towns with just a few inhabitants. After that in Italy people can speak a better English and our diet is healtier and we have several delicious traditional dishes.
    • Italian Student 2: Food and school organization are definitely better in Italy and moreover, I think there are more people able to speak English fluently than in Hungary.
    • Italian Student 3: In Italy food is better than in Hungary. We have a lot of local dishes. I also love our weather better then theirs and the people too, they are a lot more friendly.
    • Italian Student 4: I think that I prefer the lifestyle of my country with its rhythms I feel joy in the air and in every streets like staying at home, which I did not feel in Hungary.
    • Italian Student 5: I think that our lifestyle is better, maybe it is not one of the best but we can't stay all time at home and don't know the world out there, for me this is the best way to grow and learn to be with others.

What would be an obstacle to move into your host country?

    • Italian Student 1: I think the biggest obstacle would be the language. Hungarian seems really difficult and it is not similar to any other European language. On the top of that not everybody can speak English so it would be really difficult to communicate.
    • Italian Student 2: There are two main obstacles that would prevent me from move into Hungary: 1) first of all the language, which I could see is very complex; 2) then the habits in terms of food and lifestyle, as they are completely different from mine because the first one is indisputable, the best food is Italian, and the second one because my life is hectic and I like it that way.
    • Italian Student 3: There are two main barriers: the language and the habits. They are really different from mine.
    • Italian Student 4: The main obstacle for me in my host country was the language, in fact mostly in the first time it has been very difficult try to communicate with my partner.
    • Italian Student 5: I think that the biggest obstacle would be the language, Hungarian is really difficult. I think I am going back to Hungary but as a tourist.

What would be a reason for you to move to your host country?

    • Italian Student 1: One of the things I loved during my Erasmus exchange in Hungary was the nature, this would be a great reason to move there.
    • Italian Student 2: A reason to move to Hungary would be the weather that I like for winter snow and because I prefer cold temperatures to warm ones.
    • Italian Student 3: Certainly the nature. In Hungary there are a lot of green spaces, I loved it! I fairly think that it is important to travel around the word and get to know new cultures.
    • Italian Student 4: My motivation for a future return in Hungary are the clean air and the feeling of peace that communicate the full vegetation.
    • Italian Student 5: A reason to move to Hungary would be the landscape full of nature and the Gulasch, I love that dish.

According to you - what are the main difficulties for integration into your host country?

    • Italian Student 1: I think that the language would make the integration really difficult for everyone but after that I think that people are really different from here, everybody is reserved and this makes it harder to make friends.
    • Italian Student 2: The main difficulty for integration in my host country would be the communication. Students spend more time to studying other languages and less English so communication would be a big problem, because I would be forced to learn Hungarian and also because people are very shy and they do not interact with strangers easily.
    • Italian Student 3: The language because is very difficult. It is extremely different from Italian. Another problem is the different customs of Hungary.
    • Italian Student 4: The main difficulties for integration in my host country are the language that are very different but also their food and their lifestyle that are so strange for me.
    • Italian Student 5: Obviously is the language, Hungarian is difficult and I think hungary is more different than Italy so I could miss Italy,  its food, its lifestyle and its sea.

    The dutch:

    • What is the biggest difference between your host country and your own country?
    • Dutch Student 1: i think that the biggest difference is the food. In the Netherlands we eat a hot meal in the evening instead of during lunch and I noticed that in Hungary they eat a lot of bell peppers.

    • Dutch Student 2: I think the biggest difference between our two countries is the schoolsystem. In Hungary school started very early and the classes were very small. However, in the Netherlands school starts at 8:30 and the classes exist of 20-35 students.

    • What do you think is better in your host country than in your own country?

    • Dutch Student 1: I think that in Hungary there is more space. The netherlands is a very small country for the amount of people that live there, so everything is very close to eachother. In Hungary there is also more nature.

    • Dutch Student 2: I think that the people in Hungary are very easy-going, while in the Netherlands people are always in a hurry. Everything was also very open, in Holland all the cities are very crowded

    • What do you think is better in your own country?

    • Dutch Student 1: I think that in the Netherlands there is a bigger amount of people who speak English.

    • Dutch Student 2: I personally like the food in the Netherlands better, because many of the foods I ate in Hungary were deep-fried and I didn't eat a lot of vegetables or fruits. In addition to this, I am a vegetarian and in Hungary a lot of meat was eaten, and there were barely any meat substitutes.

    • What would be an obstacle to move into your host country?

    • Dutch Student 1: For me, the biggest problem would be learning the Hungarian language. It is very different from Dutch or English so this would be an obstacle. Also, I noticed not a lot of people speak English in Hungary so I would't be able to properly communicate without learning Hungarian.

    • Dutch Student 2: The food would probably be the biggest obstacle for me, but language is defenitely another obstacle.

    • What would be a reason for you to move to your host country?

    • Dutch Student 1: I like that there is a lot of Nature in Hungary. It certainly is something I miss here in the Netherlands.

    • Dutch Student 2: A reason for me to move to Hungary would be the climate. I like it to have snow in the winter and to have sun in summer, in the Netherlands we have a more moderate climate.

    • According to you - what are the main difficulties for integration into your host country?

    • Dutch Student 1: It would be difficult to learn the language and adapt to the culture.

    • Dutch Student 2: The language, because not that many people in Hungary speak English so communication would be hard. The Hungarian language is also very different from my native language.

    SPAIN

What is the biggest difference between your host country and your own country?

    - From our personal experience, I believe that the biggest difference from our host country to our own one is the food. In Spain, we are all forced to follow by either our school or our own parents, a healthy diet with some strict timetables. However, in Hugary that hasn't been the case at least during our stance. Since we didn't follow any regulated timetable for our meals and almost every day we ate sandwitches and fried things with no vegetables. - (Spanish Student 1)

    - In my opinion the biggest difference between Spain and Hungary is the food. (Spanish Student 2)

    - I think the biggest difference would be the food. And not just the types of food but also the food schedules. (Spanish Student 3)

    - We think the biggest difference is about the school. In Spain, it's badly seen for underage people to drink alcohol more than once a week and with the full consent of the parents, in the same house. What we've seen in Hungary, is that this fact is not considered bad. (Spanish Student 4)

From my point of view the biggest difference between these two countries are the habits and the people behavior. The habits because we have a really different time table. In Spain compared with Hungary we eat really late. Also the behavior is a big difference because spanish people are more extrovert than the Hungary. (Spanish Student 5)

    • What do you think is better in your host country than in your own country?

    - I think that the thing that it's better in my host country was the nearly treat with the people, it was because I went to a small village. (Spanish Student 1)

    - One of the things that we have expirienced in Celldömölk and that we personally really enjoyed is the calm style everyone lives in. It doesn't take much time to get to school, everyone eats earlier therefore goes to sleep earlier too, and there isn't anyone stressed out. Whereas, where we live, in Barcelona, it's completely the opposite, everyone runs to get to places and has the need to taking either the train, the bus, the car or the motorbike, we have dinner too late therefore go to sleep really late and then wake up really early to go to school or to work. - (Spanish Student 2)

    - Definitely what is better in my host country than in my own country is the style of life. They eat whenever they want. - Also, I love how close everything is in the town. You can move easily and go wherever you want.(Spanish Student 3)

    - In this country as far as we have seen the lifestyle is totally different, they live in a more relaxed way. Also, the towns are quieter than in our country. (Spanish Student 4)

    - I think that what is better in my host country than in my own country is the life they live, the life style. In Hungary people are so polite, quiet and the places are really clean.  There are lots of natural parks and it takes only a few minutes getting to school. (Spanish Student 5)

    • What do you think is better in your own country?

    - I think that the food was better in my country.(Spanish Student 1)

    - We personally think that our country is very developed and keeps updated with everything new. For example, from our point of view, the methodology at our school is more developed than the one we've expirienced in Hungary. We work with Ipads and not in a traditional way, we make lots of projects in groups and do lots of presentations. We think nowadays this is really important since the world right now turns around technology and learning how to work in group is one of the most important things for bussiness because most of the jobs there exist involve some team work. (Spanish Student 2

    - I think that here we have better food and a better weather, although when we were in Hungary we got a warmer weather than what we though we would have.(Spanish Student 3)

    - From my point of view I think that in Spain is more easy to catch up with people. I mean we are less serious, more introvert and there are lots of people persons. I like too much our weather because most of the time is warm and in Hungary they don’t have a really nice weather. And also that we have the beach and in Hungary they only have a lake. (Spanish Student 4)

    • What would be an obstacle to move into your host country?

    - The country hadn't got any problem, but it was difficult to arrive to the village, because there was no busses or trains that arrive to the village.(Spanish Student 1)

    - We belive that the main obstacle would be the language since it is very different from our first language (Spanish and Catalan). (Spanish Student 2)

    - Maybe the weather, since I hear that on winter is really cold. But at the same time I would love to see the snow. (Spanish Student 3)

    -  I think that for me the biggest problem would be learning Hungarian. Because it seems really difficult and different to all European languages. Also I think that getting used to their time table would be difficult. (Spanish Student 4)

    - I think that I would fins difficuld to live somewhere without sea, as I'm used to it. The language would be the main obstacle and the integration in school would also be complicated. (Spanish Student 5)

    • What would be a reason for you to move to your host country?

    - To learn about another culture. (Spanish Student 1)

    - the calm style everyone lives in. -(Spanish Student 2)

    - I think that the main reason would be the calm and peaceful life they have. But also I think that I would miss the life style I have now. (Spanish Student 3)

    - Probably the landscape, because the nature is beautiful and is something I can’t see everyday. (Spanish Student 4)

    - Everyone is very nice, hospitable and polite. I felt really good accomodated. Also, life has a different rithm. Everything there is more calmed and slower than in Spain. (Spanish Student 5)

    • According to you - what are the main difficulties for integration into your host country?

    - Obviously the launguage, the food and the culture.(Spanish Student 1)

    - From what we've experienced, the main difficulties for integration in our own country would be the language and getting used to the different traditions and food in the country. (Spanish Student 2

    - The language, because is really difficult to understand. In my case, I’m not used to long words that don’t have vocals, so it was really difficult to understand it or pronounce it. (Spanish Student 3)

    - Learning Hungarian would be the main difficulty, as it's a completely different language from Catalan or Spanish. It would also be difficult to get used to the food and the time to eat. (Spanish Student 4)
