Let's celebrate the Earth Day togehther!
Our common presentation
WORLD EARTH DAY IN THE PRIMARY SCHOOL OF A. SLÁDKOVIČ, SLIAČ, APRIL 22
No human being should stand outside the environment, because each of us is part of nature. We are all dependent on the environment and it depends on us. Each of us should begin to accept personal responsibility for the protection of the environment.
Why the Earth Day? The Earth Day is at least one of the 365 days a year, when people´s attention is turned to the environmental situation. Individuals, groups and organizations have been united on this day to share their common interest in planet Earth. Public attention is focused on the ways in which human behaviour affects our common environment. People realize the need to protect the planet by changing their own actions.
As the current situation in the world does not allow us to organize a common event in nature, the Central Slovak Museum decided to announce a challenge in which the students of our school also participated – School Children´s Club and older students (on Art lessons). Their task was to make a product as part of clothing recycling. They worked at home. They worked hard, were creative and skillful.
By recycling old clothes, students made not only shopping bags, but also decorated handbags, headbands, caps, scarves, necklaces, cases and covers for mobile phones, books or mugs, pillows, toys, as well as original face masks.
EARTH DAY 2021
The topic of environmental protection is very topical nowadays, because many of us, who use the comforts of the modern age, are still not sufficiently aware of the need to protect our planet EARTH. Therefore, we, in Andrej Sládkovič Primary school, have decided to join an environmental protection project to remind our students and the public that our Earth needs to be protected if we do not completely destroy it.
We started the environmental campaign on Monday 19 April, when as a part of the “Green school” project, leaflets for pupils and citizens of the town on how to save energy were added to the notice board in the town and the school website. They were prepared by the 7th, 8th and 9th graders during the distance learning.
During the following days, we carried out other activities at school. Our younger pupils made posters and decorated the classrooms. The 8th and 9th graders competed in the quiz called “DO NO RISK WITH ENERGY”. They chose questions in different topics: energy, household energy, ways of saving energy, energy label and energy sources. As another activity, an escape game with an environmental topic was prepared for them. On Thursday, April 22, 2021, all students listened to a radio program dedicated to Earth Day, which was prepared by the 8th graders.
The finale of the environmental activities was Friday, April 23, 2021. The 9th graders prepared a peer education for younger classmates.
They prepared various locations for them, where students learnt something new and try it out.
1. They explained to their classmates what alternative energy sources are, how to save energy at home and at school.
2. They learnt to recognize parts of plants, medicinal herbs and they also tried sowing plants.
3. They repeated how we properly sort waste, showed what recycling is in practice. They made bags from old T-shirts.
4. They used a memory game to identify animal spoors.
5. They also play a game “I know the tree and I can assign a leaf and a fruit to it”.
A week of environmental activities at our school was successful. This was evidenced by the favourable responses from students and teachers.

ECO-POSTERS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC
We don´t keep school activities to ourselves. We also spread them in the town, for the local community. The 7th to 9th graders made posters during the distance education, which we also hung in showcases in the town, on notice boards at school and on our school website.
RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES
Pupils in 4.B dealt with the topic of renewable energy sources. After making water mills and testing the power and energy of water, which is a helper for people in many areas, they jointly prepared a large-format poster about renewable energy, which is situated right next to their classroom and occupies the entire wall J
QUESTIONNAIRE EVALUATION
We asked our pupils, teachers and parents how they save energy or how they behave towards the environment. 211 families filled in the questionnaire and everyone answered all the questions. We found out that more than half of families do something so that they don´t waste energy unnecessarily. Half of the respondents are interested in the environment and climate changes. In households, they switch off household appliances as soon as they have finished working with them and regulate heating. In winter, more than three quarters of families’ air briefly and intensively. We have found that they have already replaced ordinary light bulbs with energy-saving light bulbs. Most households save water. In the questionnaire, we found out that half of the respondents go to work and school by car. We still can´t change their thinking, even though we have taken a step. We were pleased that three quarters of households’ sort waste, so our topic from the previous period is still bearing fruit.
The Council liked the work on the questionnaire. Look at the graphs: The questionnaire – saving energy.
