At 8.45 am we all directly met at Prien Harbour, which is a port on the shores of Lake Chiemsee.
From here, it is possible to take a boat and visit the near island called "Herrenchiemsee". And this is exactly what we did.
In Herrenchiemsee there is the Herrenchiemsee New Palace, a castle of late nineteenth century modelled on Versailles, built as the "Temple of Fame" for King Louis XIV of France, whom the Bavarian King Ludwig II was a great admirer.
Our German colleagues organised for a very interesting guided tour which showed us some of the large rooms, the State Staircase, the Royal Bodyguard room with enormous lamps and chandeliers, the golden chambers with frescoes on the ceilings, and the great Hall of Mirrors.
We also visited the Northern Staircase, which still remains unfinished, and the impressive marble Bathroom with all walls and ceiling painted.
In the end we visited the King Ludwig II museum, where the life of the monarch is documented with portraits, furniture, building projects and other handcrafts. Thank you very much dear Michaela Hoff, you told us a lot of curiosities about King Ludwig!!
For lunch we had some time to spend on another island, so we took the boat again and hopped to "Fraueninsel", a very small car-free island where a Benedictine monastery is located.
The atmosphere is very quiet and relaxing ... time seems to stand still.
But it's time to go back to Stephanskirchen.... and prepare for the farewell party.
At 7 pm, we all met at school for the farewell party.
The school principal, Mr Florian Burggraf, together with Ms Martina Ludsteck, gave a touching but also amusing speech about the project, and about the students. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality.
And thanks a lot to all German parents who prepared a delicious and tasteful dinner, with many Bavarian typical dishes which our students really appreciated. They had all their bellies full and couldn't stop eating !!
