In the morning we had a walk in Stephanskirchen heading to the Bauer Bakery: it’s a very big and important bakery in the Rosenheim area. We had the opportunity to see the whole steps of the production of bread, from the wheat whole grains to the different types of flour, from the mixing of flours and ingredients to the shaping of different types of bread. We were shown the various big ovens that bake with different temperatures and times depending on the type of bread. We also learned how to make bread, and we tried with our own hands to shape a dough into a pretzel. In the end, the bakery gave us freshly baked pretzels as a gift. They were delicious!!
Back to school, students were divided into three groups: each group learnt how to make a typical Bavarian recipe: knodels with mushroom sauce, cheese-spatzle, and the kaiserschmarm. Learning by doing, they revised the vocabulary related to food and cooking, and they also enjoyed cooking for real!!
After a typical Bavarian lunch prepared by the school, students went to the gym to try a sport which is absolutely new to us: floorball. It’s quite similar to ice-hockey but it’s played indoor on a gym floor. After an hour training, students were ready to play the game. Thanks to Mr Andreas Riedl, who, in a very short time, succedeed in teaching our pupils the main rules and techniques. The students enjoyed a lot.
