  • At 8.15 we all met at the Rosenheim station, where we took the train to Munich, the capital city of Bavaria. After a change, we arrived directly to Marienplatz, the most important square in the centre of the old part of the city, where there is the Neo-gothic New Town Hall and the famous “Glockenspiel”, a very big carillon in the centre of the tower, with figurines representing various events in Munich’s history twirling around in a 12-minute show, at 11 am and again at 12 am everyday.

As tour guides, we had Ms Landendinger’s mother, who was born and still lives in Munich, and a friend of her, who spoke Italian and gave us a tour guide of the town in our language.

During our walking tour, we visited a lot of different churches, for example the famous yellow Catholic church “Theatinerkirche”  with its Rococo style, the massive Karlstor gate in Karlsplatz, and the Isartor Gate and its frescoes, the eastern gate of the historic city of Munich.

We also had the chance to visit the most elegant shopping mall in Munich, the famous Fünf Höfe” (Five Courts), which offers more than 60 different shops and, of course, some amazing works of art, for example its hanging gardens and its sphere of steel mesh.

For lunch, we stopped at a traditional beer hall, the “Hofbrauuhaus”, one the most ancient breweries in Munich, dating back to 500 years ago. It has a long history of brewing and it’s nowadays well-known all around Europe. Here  you can taste not only beer but also a great variety of typical Bavarian dishes.
