January 2020 - July 2020
Since January, Year 6 have been working towards completing the Archbishop of York’s Young Leader’s Award in their PSHE sessions. We have been learning about inspirational leaders and considering what makes an effective leader. In order to complete the award, Year 6 had to plan a project that would have a positive impact on the local community such as litter picking or organising a charity event. Although everything didn’t quite go to plan with this because of coronavirus and social distancing, our Year 6s couldn’t be dissuaded! We decided to write letters to the residents of our local care home, Armstrong House, as we felt that people living in care homes must be having a particularly challenging and upsetting time at the moment. We wanted to spread some positivity and cheer to the residents in a safe way so we emailed them letters about how we have been spending our time during lockdown and what our hopes for the future are.
Miss Sutcliffe received an email from Armstrong House yesterday with these fabulous photographs of residents enjoying our letters! Armstrong House would like to thank the children for the wonderful idea and their efforts to put a smile on the residents’ faces.
