february 2021 - our ecological footprint

  • My ecological footprint - How can everyone personally reduce his ecological footprint?

    Phases:

    - In each school, the students work on the topic “my ecological footprint”.

The basis for this topic is the website of the project “a better day the 100 way” (https://eingutertag.org/en/). Instead of having kilograms of CO2 or global hectares to calculate the footprint (which is extremely difficult to imagine not only for students but for adults as well), this website uses a very easy approach: Every person on this world is allowed to use 100 points each day. If they stay below these points, it is a good day since they emit less CO2 than they would be allowed to. The focus of this project is to help you to live a mindful and responsible life and at the same time increase your quality of life.

    - Each student works individually and has the task to document everything he or she consumes or uses on one day. Detailed points for different products (Mobility, Heating, Consumer Choices, Leisure, Food, …) can be looked up on the website. To make this process even easier, students may download the mobile app or create an account on the website to save their individual days and also improve them later on.

    - After having counted the points, which will very likely be higher than the 100 points every one of us is allowed, the students have the task to improve their day in order to use up less points and turn their day into a better day. They can swap modes of transportation, food consumed, leisure activities carried out and so on to score less points on this day.

    - The students then present their original day along with the improved version of the day on our eTwinnings website, where each other’s results can be seen and discussed.
