    Song lyrics

Jest takie miejsce u zbiegu dróg,
Gdzie się spotyka z zachodem wschód...
    Nasz pępek świata,
    Nasz biedny raj...
    Jest takie miejsce,
    Taki kraj.

    Nad pastwiskami ciągnący dym,
Wierzby jak mary w welonach mgły,
    Tu krzyż przydrożny,
    Tam święty gaj...
    Jest takie miejsce,
    Taki kraj.

Kto tutaj zechce w rozpaczy tkwić,
    Załamać ręce, płakać i pić,
    Ten święte prawo ma
    Ma, bez dwóch zdań...
    Jest takie miejsce,
    Taki kraj.

Nadziei uczą ci, co na stos
    Umieli rzucić swój życia los,
    Za ojców groby,
    Za Trzeci Maj...
    Jest takie miejsce,
    Taki kraj.

Z pokoleń trudu, z ofiarnej krwi
    Zwycięskiej chwały nadchodzą dni.
    Dopomóż Boże
    I wytrwać daj!
    Tu nasze miejsce,
    To nasz kraj!

There is a place at the crossroads,

Where the West meets the East...

    Our centre of the universe,

    Our poor paradise...

    There is such a place,

    Such a country.

    Flowing smokes above pastures,

Willows like ghosts, in the veils of fog...

    Here is a roadside cross,

    There is a sacred forest...

    There is such a place,

    Such a country.

Who wants to live in despair here,

To wring one’s hands, to cry and drink...

    They have a holy law

    without any doubt...

    There is such a place,

    Such a country.

We learn hope from those, who

Gave their lives on the stack…

For the graves of our forefathers,

    For the Third of May...

    There is such a place,

    Such a country.

From generations of pain, from sacrificial blood,

Days of victorious glory are coming...

    So help us, God!

    And let us survive...

    Here is our place,

    This is our country!

    Song interpretation

The song tells a story about the Uprising of 1918-1919 in Wielkopolska, the region which after 123 years of Poland captivated in partition wanted to join our country. This Uprising proved to be a masterpiece of political and military actions, which gave the Poles not only the satisfaction of victory but also real advantages – the annexation of almost all of Wielkopolska to the Republic of Poland. During the captivity generations of Poles fought for “Poland to be Poland”. To them we owe freedom, a sense of national pride, the opportunity to cultivate Polish traditions and honour heroes. Today, the Fatherland expects the most important thing from us – the memory of his great sons and the love of his homeland. Today we are fortunate to grow up in a free country. But let us remember that the ancestors deserve the memory and the fatherland our love.
