INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE PERIODIC TABLE 2019

  • Tribute to the international year of the periodic table

IES Macarena proposes this card game to be used in the classroom as a gamification for learning the periodic table of the chemical elements. We use the www. hearthcards.net for the creation of the cards.

PERIODIC TABLE FROM IES MACARENA (SEVILLE) SPAIN

We have elaborated a periodic table of the elements with cubes where all the elements of the periodic table and their utilities are represented.

PERIODIC TABLE FROM IES VEGA DE ATARFE

Students from IES Vega de Atarfe, have been working in their last product of Looking for eTwinnio project.

They have designed a big periodic table. In this project they have work with robotic, technology and chemistry.

The process was in several steps:

1º Students, with help’s teachers, have designed the structure of the skeleton and had decided the necessary material.

2º Teachers have bought the material (wood slats, polystyrene cubes, paint, tail, and paint brushes).

3º They have made the skeleton in technology class, with Sandra and Alberto’s teachers.

4º They have designed the letter of the periodic table with In Skape App in TIC’s class.

5º They have cut the letter with the laser cutter, with Alberto’s teacher’s help. These letters are going fixed in one face of each cube.

6º In chemistry class, the have looked for the information of each element and have made a file with this information.

7º These files are in a wordpress blog and have assigned a URL. With this URL, they have made QR codes, in order to put it them in other face of the cube.

8º The information for the other two faces of each cube is a image and the Bohr configuration.

The idea to dissemination was to expose the periodic table and all the activities of the project in a science fair in our town, because in this fair participate a lot of schools (primary and secondary, public and private, and the families of all the students in the town). But due to COVID19 our plan have failed. This is the reason while we are exposing part of the work students have been done yet in this page.

This periodic table is a small sample of our work.

    IES Macarena, Sevilla, Spain

We experiment with the elements of the periodic table by practicing chemical reactions in the laboratory.
