First week in September is Zero Waste Week (www.zerowasteweek.co.uk) - we will try not to produce any waste the whole week. World Cleanup Day is held every third Saturday in September so we will clean litter around schools and map illegal waste disposals. September 21 is Zero Emissions Day and September 22 is Car Free Day so we will walk or bike to school instead of going by car. September 28 is Green Consumer Day. We will wear something green to school and discuss the problems of consumerism and its impact on the environment. The importance of recycling, reusing and reducing will be taught in Civics. We will empower students to make informed choices about the food they eat so as to reduce the overall ecological impact due to the worldwide production of food, talk about the importance of not wasting food, contributing to food banks for the poor. On 24th October we will talk about the International Day of Climate Action (www.350.org)
