How To Be a Tour Guide

  • The preparation

    How to be a tour guide has been a theoretical and practical activity of the students belonging to two classes of our Liceo, Class 2D and Class 4D.

    Since these classes belong to the "Linguistic" branch of our school, some of these students will actually work in the tourist sector, as travel agents, tour guides, etc.

    Therefore we thought it could be a perfect activity for our Erasmus project.

    In the theoretical part - which was done in the months before the arrival of the foreign guests - the students studied:

    1) how to organize a tour, which also included practical aspects, such as where to buy food, where to queue, how to buy tickets for the group, what means of transportation to use, etc.; this part was supervised by Mrs Rollins;

    2) what cultural (mainly artistic and historical) aspects to present during the visits; this part was supervised by Mrs Frontino, a History of Art teacher;

    3) how to prepare a video using specific apps and tools (Kinemaster and AVS video editor); this part was supervised by different teachers (ICT and movie experts).

    The visits

    The first visit was organized on Monday 6th May to Colosseum and the Roman Forum, with Class 2D.

    The video was edited using the program "Kinemaster", which the students had studied previously and which was also presented to the other students during the LTT Activities.

    The second visit was organized on Thursday 9th May to the Vatican Museums and St.Peter's, with class 4D.

    The students were able to be the tour guides using the earphones, but it was not possible to film a video inside the Vatican Museums.

    The third visit was on Friday 10th May to Rome City Centre. It was the most complicated one, because the students were divided in smaller groups who followed different routes, but actually visited the same spots (with some little differences), which were: S.Pietro in Vincoli (Michelangelo's Moses), Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, Pantehon, S.Louis of the French, Piazza Navona.
