OUR SCHOOL
Welcome to 2nd Upper Secondary School of Nea Ionia in Volos, Greece.
We are a public Upper Secondary School in Volos, in the region of Nea Ionia. This neighborhood haw a high rate of unemployment as it was brutally hit by the economic recess.
Our school is a general school with 250 students. The main aim of the educational services offered is the preparation of students for the General Examinations so as to enter University Departments of their choice.
The objectives of the school faculty focus on preparing the future academic citizens. Also we focus on the school’s international profile by supporting Erasmus projects which promote the ideas of European citizenship, entrepreneurship and acquisition of necessary skills for future working life..
VOLOS MOBILITY EXPERIENCE
Sunday 22/04: Arrivals_ Official reception _ Common dinner
Erasmus teams arrived at Volos late in the evening. Teachers were accommodated at their hotel by host teachers and had dinner altogether.. Host students and their parents welcomed the students outside the 2nd Upper Secondary School of Nea Ioniaschool and took them to their houses.
Monday 23/04: Official opening. Meeting at school.
In the morning all the Erasmus teams arrived in school and were welcomed by the school’s headmaster.
After short presentations of the participant countries, the students presented the CVs and the dream maps they had prepared.
After a short break teachers had their transnational meeting, while the students did a workshop where they completed career guidance work sheets.

In the afternoon,after lunch all teams had a guided tour around Volos and were shown the main ancient and modernmonuments and were told about local history and culture.
Tuesday 24/04 Study trip in Meteora, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Early in the morning we left Volos and arrived to Meteora. Meteora is a rock formation in Central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance to Mount Athos. Six of the monasteiesr are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominath the local area
Wednesday 25/04: study visit at Loulis Mills , a local company.
At 9.00 a.m erasmus teams were gathered at school and took the bus to Amaliapolis, a village close to Volos, for a study visit at a local company, the Loulis Mills.
The management welcomed the visitors and presented the company. Business executives of the company presented the operation of the factory and informed the students about the various sectors of the enterprise and how they contribute to the successful results the business shows. Additionally, they learned about the special skills and educational qualifications needed for a successful career in the modern European work environment
We returned to Volos for lunch..
In the afternoon we took the bus to Makrinitsa and Portaria two traditional villages on the Mount Pelion. We walked to the stone paths and had some coffee admiring the beautiful view of the city of Volos.
Late in the evening we returned to Volos for dinner.
Thursday 26/04: Transnational meeting and students’ workshop
At 8 a.m. All Erasmus teams met at school and watched a presentation of an e- portfolio: (similarities and differences compared to a written CV, advantages and potentials) . Then, after a short break, the students went to the computer laboratory where they were given step by step instructions for the creation their own e-porfolio, Students worked in groups and made one e- portfolio per group due to low availability of computer sets.

After finishing the work shop students returned to the host houses and teachers to the hotel and had lunch.
In the afternoon we had free time so we had a walk on the promenade and we visited the city center and the shops.
At 7.30 p.m. all teams met at a nearby restaurant for the farewell. dinner.
Friday 27/04: All day study visit to Athens
We left Volos by bus in the morning and we arrived in Athens at 12.00. We were guided at the Acropolis Archaeological Museum and at the Acropolis’ Rock. The teams were shown the Parthenon and learned about the unique architecture and the significance of this monument. Also the guide explained the history behind the temples and ancient buildings surrounding the Parthenon. Moreover the visitors visited the Herodion Auditorium where famous artists perform in the summer.
