Class 1: Inclusion
- What does it mean to you to be inclusive?
To acquire civic competences and develop active citizenship. Ultimately the goal is to promote social inclusion and attitudes of non-discrimination towards cultures, gender, race, religion,
disabilities, sexual orientation, age or any other categorization as such.
- Let’s build up a word bank! Think of synonyms and opposites.
Nouns: Diversity - Equity – Gender – A wheelchair
Verbs: To be on an equal footing – To be discriminated against – To include – To exclude – To deny
Adjectives: To be inclusive – disabled – handicapped – To be crippled
- Do you know disabled people? Or have you got a physical disability?
Your task for next class
Group yourself by the towns or villages you live in. Share your knowledge on what are the facilities offered by your community for disabled people (e.g. associations or special infrastructures) and/or what should be improved for them.
Make a presentation during next class.
Class 2: Local cultural heritage
- What is European Heritage Days?
During the European Heritage Days in September every year, doors are opened to thousands of monuments and sites (some of them normally closed to the public), allowing people to enjoy free visits, learn about their shared cultural heritage and become actively involved in the safeguarding of Europe's heritage for present and future generations.
The European Heritage Days is the most widely celebrated participatory cultural event in Europe.
The initiative is designed to:
-
raise awareness of Europe's cultural richness and diversity
-
stimulate interest in Europe's cultural heritage
-
counter racism and xenophobia and encourage greater tolerance for other cultures across Europe
-
inform the public and governments about the need to protect cultural heritage
-
invite Europe to respond to the social, political and economic challenges of the culture sector.
