The Municipality of our town,Corinth has been celebrating International Children's Book Day for seven years now, with much success.
This year, the special day fell on April, 1 and was organised by the Municipal Library of Corinth and the Town Council with the help of the Russian Embassy in Greece .A range of activities was organised, including giving children the opportunity to explore the culture of this year's honored country, Russia, by enjoying traditional Russian songs sung by the local children's choir at the Municipal Theatre and listening to traditional Russian fairy tales in both languages.Children, also, had the chance to create crafts at the Folk Museum of our town, read the books and meet the well-known author, Mr Papatheodoulou, create drawings inspired by their favourite books and display them in the foyer of the Municipal Theatre, and in short, embark on an exciting journey on Pegasus, the mythical winged horse which is our town's emblem, to explore the Land of Reading.
ETwinning and our project could not be missing, so we were proud of seeing the poster of our project presenting the activities organised at our school, as well as some drawings of eTwinners inspired by our favourite books, exhibited and admired at the foyer of The Municipal Theatre of Corinth today!
Here are some photos of the foyer of the Municipal Theatre with the students' creations on display!

THE READ AND SHARE BOOK JAR
Monday, 8/5/2017 was an unforgettable day for Greek Etwinners, as we visited the Public Library of Corinth and attended a seminar called' The Byzantine Initials. After that, we took part in a creative workshop and created the name of our project with special letters inspired by Byzantine initials! We also organised activities, like our Book Jar which is a jar which contained names of books written in colourful strips of paper and each students should draw a lot in order to learn the name of the next book he/ she could borrow from the library to read! So, Galini drew 'David Copperfield' by Charles Dickens, Elizabeth drew ' A tree grows in Brooklyn' by Betty Smith, Iliana drew ' Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott and Anna drew 'Billy Elliot' by Mervin Burgess. A wonderful idea, don't you agree?

LIBRARY CHALLENGE: A POSTCARD FROM A BOOK CHARACTER...
This is another Library Challenge that we assumed at the Public Library on Monday , 8/5/2017.I wrote the challenge on a piece of paper which I tried hard to make it look old and ageing( I tried the old trick of submerging the paper in two cups of tea, dried it in the sun afterwards and then, I used a candle to make it brown on some spots and blacken the edges a bit...I do hope I managed to make it look like a parchment manuscript!) The Library Chellenge was that each student should write a postcard from a book character about their adventure in the story, eg Cinderella talking about going to the ball, or Harry Potter telling the class about Hogwarts etcStudents should use their letter writing skills and draw a picture on the front!
I am looking forward to their postcards, aren't you?
These are the postcards from book characters we wrote:

LIBRARY SCAVENGER HUNT!
One of the most pleasurable actvities we organised was the Scavenger Hunt at the School Library. The students were given their tasks, which were written on a sheet made of cork, rushed and accomplished all their tasks! So, for example, the book they found that was made into a film was Narnia, the book with a number in its title was the Twelfth Night by Shakespeare, the book with the colour in its title was Red Pyramid by Riordan and the book about an animal character was The story of the Seagull and The Cat who taught her to fly by Sepulveda!
We had so much fun! Here are some images of the event!

............................................................................................................................................. BOOK SPINE POETRY CONTEST
Last but not least, we organised a Book Spine Poetry Contest at the School Library. The students had to try hard and find at least three books whose titles can form a poem! Then, they should take a picture of it and show it to you! This was a bit difficult , so they formed two teams in order to be more effective and finally, created two poems. The first of our poems is this:Split heart / Near the railway / I do care.
The second poem is this:The eternal moment/ Order/ The Letter from the past
Here are some images of this event!

THE FACEBOOK PAGE OF FRANCIE NOLAN!!!
Dear friends
The Greek students have created an imaginary facebook page for Francie Nolan, the unforgettable little girl in Betty's Smith' A Tree Grows in Brooklyn'.
The page is based on Chapter 27 of the book, which describes a cruel Christmas custom which existed in Brooklyn at the beginning of the 20th century. It was about a trees still unsold till Christmas Eve.
So, at midnight , on Christmas Eve, the kids gathered where there were unsold trees and the vendor threw each tree in turn, starting with the biggest.Kids volunteered to stand up against the throwing. If a boy did not fall under the impact, the tree was his.If he fell, he would lose the tree.Only the roughest boys chose to be hit by the big trees. However, Francie Nolan, a weak nine-year-old girl and her little brother, Neely who was nine, decided to go and have their first try for a tree. And they chose the biggest of all...Let's imagine that there was facebook at that time and have a look at their imaginary dialogue before making up their minds to go for the Christmas tree...
