Czech long-term mobility in Spain 2019

  • A long-term mobility in Spain within the Erasmus+ project The Town I Want to Live in: A Sustainable Approach

To introduce ourselves, we are Michaela Jandačková and Petr Koribanič. We study 4th year at the Gymnázium Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. We recently spent 2 months in Spain (Asturias). Since we were staying in families and we were studying at Spanish school, our experience was even more realistic.

What did those two amazing months give us? We have improved our Spanish a lot. Now we can understand a lot, we got idioms and more or less recent vocabulary. We also improved our English, and we had the opportunity to make new friends. We got to know the Spanish culture as well.

We could say that we can see some differences in our cultures, for example the Spanish cuisine. Oh, how much we loved the Spanish food! Spanish people usually have dinner at 10 pm. That is so late for us. In addition, the educational system in Spain is different. After four years of secondary school the kids choose if they want to study science, humanities or languages and then they study that for two years in „bachillerato“. After those two years, they go to university.

We visited many interesting places, for example The Aquarium in Gijon, the MUMI (Museum of Mining and Industry), Oviedo, Aviles and Gijon. We think that we have learnt many new things.

Our usual day started at 7:30 am, when we woke up. The Spanish school starts at 8.30 am and finishes at 2:30 pm. There is only one break that starts at 11:15 am and finishes at 11:45 am. When we got home, we usually had lunch, did our homework and then we hang out. We were visiting the library in Pola de Siero, the parks and the shopping centre. Then we went home and had dinner, usually at 9 pm.

We want to say thank you to our Spanish families (Andrea Roces Pastrana and Nuria Fernandez Montes), to our teacher Soňa Macurová and also to Pablo Arribas for this amazing experience, that we think, we will not be able to forget.
