The 3rd year students of our school participating in the project carried out a sampling of noise throughout the city during the week of December 17-21. The activity was designed and coordinated by the Technology department. The students were equipped with plans from each sector of the city and used the sound meter application for Decibel X mobile devices for measurements.

Noise sampling in Pola de Siero

At each sampling point, three measurements of one minute duration spaced 10 minutes were taken. These data were treated statistically by means of a spreadsheet in Maths class, following the STEAM methodology that features the project.

The sampling points were object of geolocation to be able to represent the noise data on a plan of Pola de Siero. To this purpose, the QGIS software for spatial representation of data was used and the final product was a noise map of the city, which shows the critical areas. In these areas of town center legal thresholds appear to be overpassed.
