Our Emotion Plates

  • In our school we love to learn about emotions. Our younger children have been learning how to label their emotions. We also teach strategies on how to deal with our emotions in an appropriate way.

In our experience, we find with our younger children, the most difficult thing for them is they do not have the langauge to label their emotions. We regularly use books to teach the children to name their emotions and what each emotion can feel like. We used How are you feeling today? : A picture book to help young children understanding their emotions by Molly Potter as basis for our lessons.

After the story the children used paper plates to create their emotions in art form. Each colour plate represents a different emotion. It was a super fun lesson and our children responded well to it.
