DAY 3 - DAN 3

  • Srijeda, 11. listopada 2017.

    Wednesday 11/10/2017

3rd day of course „Digital Tools for Students with Special Needs“

Today's schedule was of a different content in comparison to the first two days. It included a one day trip to Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi, who initiated a reform of the Church and was a founder of the Franciscan religious order in the town in 1208. The Basilica of St. Francis (San Francesco) in Assisi has been put under the protection of the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in the year 2000. It is one of the famous emblems of Christianity.

Association Centro Atlas is taking part in the European project the purpose of which is to integrate refugees into the society, since quite a big number of them are residing in Italy. The group that was assigned to us was mainly consisted of refugees from Ghana, Uganda and Nigeria. They cannot speak neither English nor Italian language, so in order to help them to express their culture and tradition the team provided non-verbal methods of expression: African drums and different collage techniques. The Centro Atlas organizes workshops for them in the big hall of the Assisi church which, also, provides accommodation for them. Italian government tries to ensure and improve living conditions for them (elementary existential needs, learning of the language, attending the school, access to therapy, assistance with the job search...)

They don't like to be photographed due to their depressive mood, which is the result of very slow realization of expectation and aims that brought them to Europe.

After the close encounter and the work with the group of refugees, the members of the Centro Atlas usually take a break having a glass of wine for relaxation, because their work is emotionally exhausting.

The therapy of the patient with the diagnosis „tuberous sclerosis“, already scheduled the same day, was cancelled because the mother of the patient cancelled the arrival.
