ST3.3 What do you buy?

  • Portugal

15th March 2017 - What do you buy? Genetically modified foods (GMO)?!

The main objective of this work was to make the diagnosis of the knowledge of the students from Póvoa de Lanhoso’s Secondary School about GMOs and the concerns that they have about this subject, the purchase of products containing GMOs and their impact on public health and on the environment. The analysis was done through an online survey applied to 121 students, where we found out that 45 students had never heard of the topic, while the remaining ones, although they consider that they know the subject, present a lot of gaps.

The results found lead us to conclude that although this subject being taught in 9th grade it was not properly consolidated, so it would be important to perform information actions for these students so that in the future they can make reflected choices.
