Theme 3 - CONSUMPTION

  • Theme 3: Adopt patterns of consumption to fight poverty and social exclusion

ST3.1. Commercial/advertisement – Each country should prepare a TV commercial, which would encourage people (especially teenagers) to buy a (locally produced) product emphasising sustainable consumption.

ST3.2. Local supermarket audit. Each school would choose a grocery or local supermarket of similar characteristics and we would make a study of different aspects such as sales of local products, packaging systems, etc. by means of a registration form.

ST3.3. What do you buy? – We should collect some durable and non-durable products for 2 families. The first family their life is influenced by TV commercials. The second family is a realistic family but with different values. What items do the two families buy? How much money could be saved with a sensible lifestyle in for example 3 years?

ST3.4. Eco-Bank & Eco-consumption – Create an Eco-Bank to exchange books, calculators, clothes, … and help the families to save money. Recycling to produce new things. We can also open stands in shopping malls and deliver brochures. Also, each country can prepare a video or a booklet to show what their governments do for sustainable consumption in terms of energy, spending money, shopping, time, health...etc.

ST3.5. ICT to managing the household / personal budget – Create a collaborative place to discuss ways to manage the budget. On a weekly basis the team would come up with suggestions on a website to manage the budget.

ST3.6. Old professions: During meetings we could visit different places where old manual jobs such as handicraft, pottery, etc. are carried out.
