COOPERATION Final product 2: Biodiversity

  • During these two years of cooperation we studied many environmental and natural science oriented topics and our students together with us, teachers, learnt a lot.

In this topic activities we will utilise all meaningful skills and knowledge that we gained and work on many aspects of biodiversity.

What are its benefits, its consequences? What does biodiversity provide? How was it created? How is it endangered by our way of life? We will learn about previous mass extinctions on Earth, about the threats that we are facing now, species that are in danger in our national ecosystems, in Europe, over the globe. We will look for the suggestions and solutions to the problems related to losing the diversity.

We will together create teaching materials in the forms of articles, blogs, videos, posters, cards etc. Many of them will be included in our common padlet.

We will use these teaching materials in our schools in peers education and also during Erasmus+ mobility of Lithuanian partners to the school in Slovakia.

These collaboration activities will be also registered as the World Earth Day 2022 Event.

This logo created by cooperation of our students became the symbol of our two-year work:

TASK 1 - What is biodiversity?

We learn the basic knowledge and share it.

    https://ec.europa.eu/environment/strategy/biodiversity-strategy-2030_e

Students will write articles which will be added to the joint padlet and our joint blog.

We also joined Earth Day events:

TASK 2 - Which/How many/How deadly mass extinctions did our Earth experience before? What were their reasons and consequences? Can we experience the next one?

    https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/mass-extinction

Students will create information cards of the topic of extinctions which will be added to the joint padlet.

    This is the example:

    Five Big Extinctions.pdf

TASK 3 - What is the Red List of Threatened Species? How is it created? Which are the most endangered species generally in the world and specifically in our countries?

    https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/22692064/93335364

Students will create cards of endangered species which will be added to the joint padlet.

    This is the example:

    Eurasian lynx LT.pdf

TASK 4 - How do global warming and other factors threaten biodiversity of species?

Students will write articles/blogs which will be added to the joint padlet and our joint blog.

    Our common padlet on Biodiversity:

TASK 5 - How can we help?

Students will make their own contributions to preserve biodiversity - they could join planting trees, flowers, ...

TASK 6 - Final Teaching Materials on Biodiversity

Students will create educational videos/presentations or document the peer lessons they will teach with the help of these materials

    MORE RESULTS:

    Erasmus+ mobility of

    Lithuanian students in Slovakia

Students of Videskes gymnasium visited Gymnazium of Ivan Kupec and during their 5 day stay from 25 April to 29 April 2022 worked on many Biodiversity tasks together:

1, we prepared posters, worksheets, lesson plans, quizzes and realised five peer education lessons on biodiversity fo prima, sekunda, tercia, kvarta and kvinta classes.

    script_tercia_kvarta.docx

2, we job- shadowed Slovak lessons - one related to the topic "How life was created on Earth"  and another one concerning "Chemistry of life", we learnt about eight thresholds which led to increased complexity in universe, listened to TED talk "History of the world in 18 minutes" and at the end of them agreed on the conclusion that life is very precious and unique.

3, we searched for typical features of several ecosystems in Botanical garden in Tesárske Mlyňany

    Worksheet Arborétum Mlyňany.docx

4, we explored ecosystems of Garden Park in Hlohovec which is proud of its biggest Sycamore park in central Europe

    Worksheet Castle Park.docx

5, we planted the new flower beds near the Slovak school and Slovak students will take care of it in the future, in next weeks after the mobility - they have already been weeding the flower beds several times from May 2022 up to August 2022

6, we also studied Slovak historical milestones in Nitra, Bratislava and Hlohovec and learnt more about Celts, Romans, Moravian empire, Duke of Rastislav, beginnings of Christianity in Slovakia, Erdody family in Hlohovec up to the Velvet Revolution in 1989 on the sights where the history was actually happening

7, we visited our regional authorities, the deputy mayor of Hlohovec and cooperated with the department of the environment in Hlohovec

8, And of course we learnt about one another, chatted and discussed many other topics a lot. "Mixed groups" became one of our first everyday expressions:) We had a lot of fun together, too.
